It is finally time to start the writing process! By now, you have decided which type of book you want to write. Pick the type listed below, complete the task in a Google document, and share your plan with your science teacher:
In a Google document, plan your story. Your plan should follow Mr. Hale's outline and include the following elements:
Main Character--who is he/she? Make sure to answer Mr. Hale's questions and/or make a web as shown on the site. List the facts that will be relevant to the development of your main character.
Setting--Answer Mr. Hale's questions. List the facts that will be relevant to the development of your setting.
Problem--again, answer Mr. Hale's questions. Also, list the facts that will be relevant to the development of your problem.
Resolution--Yep, you guessed it! Answer Mr. Hale's questions and list the facts that will be relevant to the resolution.
Type Two--Scrapbook: Pick this type if you plan to compile pictures, facts, and additional anecdotes to create your book.
Visit this Scrapbook Organization website. Read over the organizational ideas and pick the method that will work best for your topic. In a Google document, identify the organization method you chose and explain why that will work best for your topic.
Look back at your sorted index card facts. List the 6-8 subtopics you sorted your cards into in the order that matches the scrapbook organization method you chose.
List the facts you will include for each subtopic. Remember, this includes 2-3 common knowledge facts, 2-3 intriguing details, and 1-2 irrelevant facts/details.
List the images you will include for each subtopic. You need 2-3 images per subtopic.
List additional anecdotes you will include for each subtopic. Examples could be poems, quotes, folktales, legends, proverbs, etc. You need at least one of these for each subtopic.
Type Three--Short Poem plus Illustration: Choose this type if you plan on creating a book of short poems. Each poem will explain a subtopic and be paired with at least one illustration/picture.
Re-visit your index card facts and sort them into subtopics. Open a Google document and list these subtopics.
List which facts you will use in each subtopic/poem.
Make a list of corresponding images you need to find or create for each subtopic/poem.
Re-visit your Wordle. Assign each adjective to the category you think it fits best.
Go to the following sites and read about different styles of poetry: Kinds of Poetry and PBSKids. Choose one style you would like to use for your book. YOU MAY NOT USE THE ACROSTIC STYLE!! Add the style you chose to your document.
